Catrina, 41

I was diagnosed on June, 15, 2021 with Triple Negative Breast Cancer Stage 3. I also hold BRCA1 gene disposition. My treatment plans consisted of sixteen rounds of Chemotherapy, Bilateral Mastectomy with Tissue Expanders and fourteen lymph nodes removed. In January 2022, I had my reconstruction surgery from tissue expander change to implants.

That process was a huge wrap around to understand and accept the changes within my body. Later in March, 2022 – I was hospitalised for 10 days with a medicine induced pancreatitis by medication called Keytruda. I’ve been in a remission for 3 years but the ups and downs have not ceased. With breast implant infection to TDAP Flap surgery, to be bilateral (one side has an implant, other side flat) to body image challenges.

I’m an active patient advocate, thriver and currently building my own legacy with my consulting firm Catrina Marcell Consulting. Where we will be helping those with the complexities of breast cancer with Education, Advocacy, and Resources. I share my stories/experiences to help others be knowledgeable and aware of things not shared.
