BETTER REPRESENTATION

When Black women and those from underrepresented groups share their stories, it provides visibility to experiences that are often overlooked in mainstream narratives. Cancer affects women of all races, but the unique challenges faced by women of colour - such as higher mortality rates, later-stage diagnoses, and disparities in healthcare - are not always discussed. Storytelling brings these issues to the forefront, raising awareness and encouraging targeted action.

MAKE AN IMPACT.

We understand that sharing your breast cancer experience can feel deeply personal, but your story could make a meaningful difference in someone else’s journey.

By opening up, you can help break the silence around the unique challenges women from underrepresented communities face, offering comfort and solidarity to those who may feel alone. Your voice is powerful, and in sharing, you create space for healing, connection, and greater awareness, all while honouring your own path.

Amplifying the voices and experiences of those touched by breast cancer is important in the work that we do. Personal stories highlight the experiences of WOC, helping to breakdown misconceptions, stereotypes and counters the one size fits all narrative. Do we have permission to share your story with our community for awareness?
To respect the privacy of our community members and storytellers, when we post about someone's story we only share their gender, age and sometimes location. By ticking you agree for us to share your first name when sharing online.
BREAKING CULTURAL STIGMAS
In some communities, discussing breast cancer or personal health issues may be taboo, leading to a lack of openness and awareness. When women from underrepresented groups share their stories, they help break down cultural barriers, normalise the conversation around breast cancer, and empower others to talk about their health without fear or shame.

ADDRESSING HEALTHCARE DISPARITIES
By sharing their experiences, women from underrepresented groups can shed light on the systemic barriers they face, such as implicit bias in medical settings or limited access to quality healthcare. These stories highlight the urgent need for equitable care and better resources, motivating both healthcare providers and policymakers to address disparities.

EMPOWERMENT THROUGH SHARED EXPERIENCE
Hearing the stories of women who have gone through similar struggles can provide immense emotional support and solidarity. For Black women and other marginalised groups, sharing stories creates a sense of community where others can feel seen, heard, and validated in their experiences. It encourages them to take action, ask questions, and advocate for their health.
